Housing Support Services in Scotland: Independent Living With the Right Support Behind You
Person-centred housing support — helping adults maintain their own home, their own tenancy, and their own goals
Independence matters. For many adults with care needs, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, or physical disabilities, the ability to live in their own home — rather than in residential or supported accommodation — is fundamental to wellbeing, autonomy, and quality of life. JR Care’s housing support service provides the structured, goal-oriented assistance that makes this possible: practical support that empowers individuals to manage their own tenancy, maintain their household, and build the skills and confidence to live as independently as possible across Edinburgh, West Lothian, Midlothian and East Lothian.
What Our Housing Support Includes
JR Care’s housing support service can include any of the following, depending on the individual’s assessed needs and personal goals:
- Support with managing household tasks and daily routines
- Help understanding and managing bills, benefits, and correspondence
- Assistance with tenancy rights, responsibilities, and agreements
- Support to access community activities, healthcare, and services
- Accompaniment to appointments and support with form filling
- Prompting and assistance with medication management
- Help developing daily living skills to increase independence
- Support with budgeting and financial management
- Crisis support and problem-solving during difficult periods
- Liaison with landlords, councils, and support agencies
How Housing Support Works
JR Care’s housing support service is delivered through a structured support plan, developed collaboratively with the individual during an initial assessment. The plan identifies the person’s goals — both immediate and longer-term — and outlines exactly what type of support will be provided, how often, and in what form.
Unlike residential care, housing support is delivered in the individual’s own home, respecting their space, their choices, and their right to live as autonomously as possible. Support visits are regular and flexible, and the support plan is reviewed regularly to reflect progress, changing needs, and new goals.
JR Care’s housing support team works alongside any other professionals already involved in the individual’s life — including social workers, occupational therapists, mental health teams, and GP services — to ensure a joined-up approach that genuinely supports independence rather than creating dependency.
What Does Housing Support Cost?
Housing support costs depend on the level and frequency of support required. Following a free initial assessment, JR Care will provide a clear, transparent outline of costs with no hidden charges. In many cases, housing support can be funded fully or partially through a social care assessment by your local council.
